Michael Manring , allievo di Jaco Pastorius, è il maestro indiscusso del basso elettrico moderno. Per anni collabora con la Windham Hill Records (Michael Hedges), Alex Skolnick, Tim Alexander, Steve Morse e la Miles Davis Tribute Band “Yo Miles !” di Henry Kaiser e Wadada Leo Smith.    Michael Manring, raffinato ed innovatore ricercatore di timbriche e linguaggi, ha dimostrato con l'uso di tecniche miste le infinite possibilità creative del suo strumento. Nelle sue performances utilizza accordature aperte avvalendosi inoltre di due o più bassi.
