This Cd is dedicated to the universality of the Rose, a symbol that inspired the musical, religious and profane literature all over medieval Europe. In the rich medieval symbology the Rose has a leding role. In fact it incarnates many esoteric or popular, religious or literary meanings in a semantic plaiting of variables such as form, colour, perfume, number of petals and thorns. The instruments employed by the italian ensemble "Chominciamento di Gioia", as well as the performing styles, are typical of the place and time of composition of each piece, according to literary or iconographic evidence. The presence of heterogeneous languages required particular attention too: think of the difference in pronunciation between the 13th century French and the more mature one of late 14th century Ars Nova or of the national connotations of the sound of high-German Latin compared to the French or Italian ones.
